Fuel Rewards Savings Calculator (Canada 2026)

Driver paying at a Canadian gas pump while collecting loyalty points

Estimate how many dollars and points you can pocket every month & year with Petro-Points, Journie, Shell Go+, or PC Optimum Fuel.

Canadian gas chains reward loyal drivers in very different ways—Petro-Canada hands out Petro-Points, Shell tallies Go+ litres, Journie slashes pump prices, and Real Canadian Superstore fuels your PC Optimum balance. But what does that mean in real cash? Our fuel rewards calculator for Canada turns the litres you buy into an apples-to-apples dollar figure so you can pick the richest program—or mix and match. See the numbers instantly, then dive into the full program breakdown for deeper tips.

Just enter how many litres you typically pump each month, choose your preferred program, and (optionally) add a credit-card multiplier. The tool converts points into an approximate cash value, projects both monthly and yearly savings, and shows total points earned—so you can decide whether switching loyalty cards might shave serious cents per litre off your budget.

Example: enter 4 if your card earns an extra 4 ¢/L or 4 % cash back on gas.

How We Calculate Your Savings

Each fuel program assigns a cash-equivalent value to every litre you pump. For simplicity, this calculator assumes the following average base earn rates: Petro-Points ≈ 2 ¢/L, Journie ≈ 7 ¢/L, Shell Go+ ≈ 3 ¢/L, and PC Optimum Fuel ≈ 4 ¢/L. We multiply your monthly litres by this base rate, then apply any credit-card multiplier you enter. That yields an estimated monthly cash value. Annual savings are simply 12 × that number. Points earned are reverse-calculated from the cash value using prevailing redemption ratios (for Petro-Points, 1 000 pts ≈ $1, and so on).

Keep in mind: premium gift cards, car-wash purchases, or regional promos can tweak these numbers, but for most drivers the figures sit within a few percent of real-world returns.

Base earn rate and cash-equivalent value assumptions per litre
Program Points per Litre Value per Point (¢) Cash-back Equivalent (¢/L) Notable Promos
Petro-Points 10 0.2 2 ¢ 5× points days, RBC link bonus
Journie N/A (¢ credit) 7 ¢ Fill 150 L: get 7 ¢/L voucher
Shell Go+ 10 0.3 3 ¢ CAA extra 3 ¢/L off
PC Optimum Fuel 10 0.4 4 ¢ 20× events at SuperStore gas

Formula in plain English: Savings = litres × baseRate × (1 + multiplier / 100). For points programs we assume 10 points = 1 cent unless otherwise specified.

Maximizing Your Gas Loyalty Rewards

  • Download each chain’s app. Weekly multipliers—like Petro-Canada’s 2× Fridays or Shell’s Seniors Day—stack on top of base earn rates that our calculator uses.
  • Link CAA or AMA to Journie. Members score an extra 3 ¢/L instant discount, boosting returns well beyond the 7 ¢/L baseline.
  • Use Scotiabank debit at Shell. Swiping Go+ plus a Scotiabank card adds a 5 % points booster on top.
  • Time fill-ups. Combining low-price Mondays (see gas cycle guide) with a PC Optimum 20× event can double your effective savings.
  • Pair a cashback card. Cards like Triangle World Elite or CIBC Dividend add up to 4 ¢/L on top of loyalty points—see best gas credit cards.

Fuel Rewards Calculator FAQ

The calculator values Petro-Points at 0.2 ¢ each—1 000 pts ≈ $2. While Petro-Canada sometimes offers bonus redemption events or 5× earn days, those promos vary. If you frequently stack such boosters you can safely adjust the credit-card multiplier to reflect the extra uplift, or run a separate calculation using a higher custom rate to approximate your real returns.

Absolutely. Most fuel loyalty programs operate independently of your credit card. That means you can swipe or scan your Petro-Points, Journie, Shell Go+, or PC Optimum barcode to log the litre-based reward and pay with a cash-back card that earns an additional 2 %–5 % rebate. Enter that extra percentage in the multiplier box to see combined savings.

Often, yes—but not always. Petro-Points and PC Optimum generally award the same points per dollar in the attached convenience store as they do at the pump, excluding lottery and tobacco. Journie and Shell Go+ sometimes assign a lower earn rate to in-store purchases. Check each program’s fine print; if in doubt, rerun the calculator with only your fuel litres to get a more conservative figure.
